114 in the Valley of Fire. Shade and water are truly a commodity. Here I am wasting precious amounts of it to mix my paints. Foolhardy, idiotic, satisfying. Shade from the rock offers little reprieve as the red rocks convect heat like a pizza oven.
I painted this from life on a camping trip at the incredible Valley of Fire in Nevada. The vastness of the desert is one of my favorite things to capture in watercolor.
